food factory

food factory: Food factory's inspiration came out of found sound. I purchased an old reel to reel that ended up having a recording of an accountant's bookkeeping. I sliced up his voice into individual sound files and created spoken word montage based on themes. 2000

na 4 expanded: Expanding elements is something that I cannot resist. I love to take a composition and stretch it out and loop it around and cut it up and make new things. 2003
paper pump: Some objects have such inheren02 t beauty in their sounds. I was attracted to this beautiful old metal air pump and a large websters dictionary and their potentials for compositions. Sometimes the simplest things can be instigators. 20
moth: The inspiration for moth came about when I found a relatively large moth trapped in a metal can. The sounds it was making with its wings on the tin were reminiscent of a tabla. I recorded the sound and explored it by composing and manipulating. 2002

the first na: "The first na" appeared around the time of "my name is bigger than yours". I at first was not satisfied with its disconnected quality but have grown to love its simplicity and length. 2002

my name is bigger than yours: Complicated compositions made with traditional and hand made instruments and the computer. These pieces are shorter and more formal. 2002

hole in the day at the birdhouse: Live recordings made at the birdhouse portland oregon with Seth Neihl, Michael Northam, Sebastian Liquid, Mat Marble and myself. 2002

john day 4: John day 4 is a composition constructed out of the sounds Michael Northam and I made on a trip to the John day river on the 4th of july 2002.

audio bow and flute: Compositions made with hand made instruments. 2002

tambour2: A further development of the tambour's sounds, I like both explorations. 2002
tambour1: I received as a gift a tambour from India and fell in love with the complex sounds it made. Using the computer I made a tambour orchestra. 2002
big bang string theory alarm: With big bang string theory alarm I wanted to explore some formal compositional elements and blend them with abstract, electronic and field recordings. 2002
minidump: Minidump is a sound collage made up of a collection of minidisks that needed to be explored. I had been recording on them for a couple of years and I weeded through and pulled the most interesting sounds from them. 2002

silver: Silver is an exploration of sound composition using only my silver flute as a sound source. 2001

gun: gun was a sound piece for a collaborative sculpture with Ruby Guberman Bloom, 2001
food factory: Food factory's inspiration came out of found sound. I purchased an old reel to reel that ended up having a recording of an accountant's bookkeeping. I sliced up his voice into individual sound files and created spoken word montage based on themes. 2000
22: a collection of improvisitions that happened at my studio with many artists from portland. the engum brothers, seth neihl, michael northam, sara mapelli, andy kennidy, sebestian liquid, suzi kazawa, yoko muro, michael shannon, lacy lowry, plama corral and others. 2000
roar death: Roar death is a piece that I created to celebrate my own death. All sounds were either recorded live field recordings or made by me. Some of the sounds include Capra Jeniva singing to my flute playing, a Buddhist Chud ceremony and lots of hand made instruments. 2001
melon head: Melon head is the younger sister to food factory, I developed lots of abstract sound that I wanted to explore without the text. 2001
jelly: Jelly is a thick compilation of lots of instrumental and electronic recordings. This was my first work completed after spending 7 years away from sound composition building my house and studio in the Columbia river gorge. 2000
